About Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a popular and relatively short trek in Annapurna Region. This trek is especially well-suited for those new to trekking, individuals with limited time, and families seeking an adventure together. Despite its lower altitude, this journey promises a remarkable experience, encompassing breathtaking vistas and an opportunity to immerse oneself in the beauty of the Himalayas. Within a short time frame, you can witness the grandeur of the Annapurna range, including iconic peaks such as Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Nilgiri, Tukuche, Varaha Shikhar, and Lamjung Himal.

The highlight of Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is undoubtedly the awe-inspiring moment when the sun’s rays paint the sky as it rises over these majestic mountains from the vantage point of Poon Hill. The trail weaves through charming Gurung and Magar villages, granting us a glimpse into their rich cultural. During the trek, we’ll find ourselves amidst lush rhododendron and pine forests, traversing terraced slopes and picturesque paddy fields.

After a long day of trekking, we will have the opportunity to relax and refresh ourselves in the natural hot springs at Jhinu. The warm water helps to loosen muscles and joints, and the minerals in the water can help to improve circulation and skin health. It is also a great way to relieve stress and fatigue. The hot springs are located in a beautiful setting, surrounded by lush forests and mountains. The water is clear and warm, and the pools are large enough to accommodate several people.

The ever-present backdrop of the Annapurna range accompanies us on our journey, adding a touch of enchantment to every step.

Day by Day Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Later in the evening, we will have a pre-departure meeting regarding the details of your trip.

In the morning, we’ll collect you from your hotel and begin our journey towards the captivating city of Pokhara. The route offers stunning views as we head westward along the Prithvi Highway. En route, we’ll follow the Trisuli and Marshyangdi Rivers, passing through picturesque villages that dot the landscape. In the distance, the magnificent peaks of Mt. Manaslu and the Annapurna Mountain ranges adorn the horizon. Pokhara, Nepal’s second-largest city, greets us with its tranquil allure and lively energy. As a gateway to various treks in the Annapurna region, it’s a favored spot for both trekkers and adventurers. After arriving at your hotel, you can settle in and freshen up. The remainder of the day is perfect for exploring Pokhara’s delightful lakeside vicinity. This bustling area is packed with eateries, shops, and cafes, all set against the backdrop of the mesmerizing Phewa Lake. You can take a leisurely stroll along the lakeside, relish the scenic vistas, or simply unwind and soak in the serene atmosphere.

Our journey kicks off with a scenic two-hour drive from Pokhara to Ulleri. Along the way, we’ll be treated to picturesque views of quaint villages and our first glimpses of the Annapurna South and Mt. Fishtail. Once we arrive in Ulleri, we step onto the trail, marking the start of our hike towards Ghorepani. The initial leg of the hike takes us through a vibrant rhododendron forest. The path gradually inclines, transitioning into a more gradual route that guides us through meadows and fields, showcasing the natural beauty of the terrain. Ultimately, our journey leads us to Ghorepani, a village favored by trekkers for its strategic positioning and distinctive allure. This charming village is inhabited by the Gurung and Magar communities, adding to its popularity and appeal.

Today is set to be a highlight of our trekking adventure. Our day starts before dawn as we wake up early to embark on an invigorating hike to Poon Hill, which stands at an elevation of 3210 meters. The ascent to Poon Hill takes around 45 minutes, and the excitement of witnessing the sunrise over the Himalayas fills us with anticipation. Upon reaching the summit of Poon Hill, we’re treated to a truly breathtaking sight as the first rays of sunlight paint the sky in shades of orange and gold. The panoramic view that unfolds before us is truly mesmerizing. From this vantage point, we can see a lineup of majestic peaks including Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurnas, Machhapuchhre (6,997m), Manaslu (8,163m), and many more.

After taking in the beauty and serenity of Poon Hill, we retrace our steps back to the hotel. Following breakfast at the hotel, we continue our trek to Tadapani. The trail meanders through the forest, occasionally revealing glimpses of the surrounding valleys and peaks, until we eventually reach Tadapani.

Today’s trek is short and easy. We descend gently through an oak, bamboo, and beautiful rhododendron forest to reach a Ghandruk. This village is inhabited by Gurungs who have rich culture and traditions. Mountains such as Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna (7455m), Annapurna III (7755m), and Fishtail can be seen from this village. We can visit Gurung Culture Museum and Handicraft Center if you’re interested.

After breakfast, we trek toward Jhinu Danda via Kot Danda. Jhinu Danda has natural hot spring where you can soak in hot water pool with amazing views of Annapurna South (7,219m) and Machhapuchhre (6,997m) to soothe your aching body.

Following breakfast, we’ll make a gentle descent for approximately 15 to 20 minutes to the location where our transportation will be ready to pick us up and return us to Pokhara.
