It serves as an appealing choice for novice climbers who seek to kick start their ascent of peaks by conquering Island Peak before progressing to more challenging summits. The name “Island Peak” derives from its captivating position within the heart of the Chhukung valley. Resembling an isolated landmass enveloped by an expanse of glaciers and moraines cascading down from colossal mountains reaching seven to eight thousand meters heights.

Subsequently, The 16 days adventure of Island Peak Climbing commences with the classic trek to the Everest Base Camp.  Tracing a well-trodden route originating from Lukla and progressing through Dingboche. Upon reaching Dingboche, the trail deviates towards the captivating Chhukung village. From this point, the path weaves its way along the moraine of the colossal Lhotse Glacier. Subsequently the route follows the course of the Imja Tso Khola. This river guides the way to the Island Peak Base Camp at the altitude of 5,100 meters. Time is spent acclimatizing and familiarizing oneself with the essential mountaineering techniques required for scaling Island Peak. To prepare climbers for the rigors ahead, comprehensive training techniques is conducted at the Base Camp. These skills are honed and perfected once again upon reaching the High Camp.

The ascent to the pinnacle commences along a ridge, demanding the use of crampons and a secure rope system to facilitate upward progress. Even though there are occasional cracks in the glacier, it is still easy to traverse. Upon reaching the zenith, a breathtaking panorama unfurls before the intrepid climbers’ eyes. The views feature a magnificent array of peaks, including as Ama Dablam, Makalu, Baruntse, and Lhotse Shar. Day by Day Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Later in the evening, we will have a pre-departure meeting regarding the details of your trip.

In the morning, we will collect you from your hotel and proceed to the airport for a captivating scenic flight to Lukla (2,800m). Embarking on our trek from Lukla, our path leads us through the charming Chaurikharka village before descending towards Dudhkoshi Ghat. This journey eventually brings us to the tranquil haven of Phakding. The day’s trek is relatively short and pleasurable, allowing us to gradually acclimatize to the ascending altitude. In the leisure moments, we have the opportunity to delve into the local culture and traditions by exploring nearby monasteries like the Rimishung Monastery.

We’ll continue our trip down the DudhKoshi River’s picturesque northern bank in the morning while taking in the breathtaking landscapes that are opening out in front of us. Our route will take us across a number of suspension bridges, including the well-known Hillary Suspension Bridge, that traverse the turbulent DudhKoshi River. Ascending through the deep trees, we will eventually arrive at the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint where our permits will be registered. Here, within the lush vegetation, is where we will get our first look of the magnificent Mt. Everest. As we continue on, our steps will lead us to Namche Bazaar, the energetic entrance to Everest, where we will arrive and take in the essence of this vibrant mountain town.

Today marks our first acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar. While here, we have a variety of hiking options to explore the surroundings. We can visit the Hillary School, established by Sir Edmund Hillary, and immerse ourselves in the Sherpa culture. Another choice is to head to Syangboche Airport, one of the highest airports globally, to see local yak farms. However, a highlight for Everest enthusiasts is the hike to Everest View Hotel. From there, you’ll witness breathtaking views of Mt. Everest that are simply unforgettable.

Leaving Namche Bazaar behind, our trek progresses with a crossing of the aptly named DudhKosi River, characterized by its milky appearance. Amidst enchanting rhododendron forests, we’re treated to mesmerizing views of Everest and Ama Dablam while ascending the valley. Upon arriving at PhunkiTenga, we cross the river and commence an ascent through a verdant forest that guides us to Tengboche. Here, the Tengboche monastery awaits, providing a splendid vantage point to gaze upon the majestic summits of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Thamserku, and Tobuche. A leisurely 15-minute stroll from Tengboche brings us to our accommodation in the tranquil village of Deboche.

After a satisfying breakfast, our next destination is Dingboche. On the route, we’ll come across numerous Buddhist shrines called Chortens, Mani walls adorned with prayer wheels, and charming villages scattered across the landscape. Notably, we’ll pass through Pangboche, a village with stunning views of Mount Ama Dablam. As we ascend, the altitude increases gradually. As we approach Dingboche, you’ll observe fields enclosed by sturdy stone walls protecting the crops. It’s impressive to witness the locals cultivating barley, buckwheat, and potatoes in this demanding environment.

Having reached Dingboche, today signifies our second day focused on acclimatization. Given our ascent to higher altitudes, allowing our bodies to acclimate to the reduced oxygen levels and elevated terrain is vital. While prioritizing our well-being, we can also utilize the day effectively by embarking on a hike to Nagajun Hill, situated at around 5,050 meters.

A steep ascent of 2 to 3 hours from Dingboche leads us to Chhukung, a quaint village in close proximity to Island Peak and the Imja Glacier Lake. After a refreshing pause, we set our sights on Chhukung Ri at 5,550 meters. The climb up Chhukung Ri proves to be a fulfilling endeavor, spanning roughly 4 to 5 hours. The ascent rewards us with breathtaking panoramic vistas of the valley below, as well as prominent peaks like Imja Tse (Island Peak), Ama Dablam, Makalu, and Nuptse.

The trail leading to Island Peak Base Camp is quite steep. Commencing from Chhukung, our path leads us in a northern direction as we navigate this valley, tracing the moraine formed by the Lhotse glacier to the east. After a brief hike alongside the river, we arrive at a prominent rock. Ascending from this point, a 40-minute climb brings us to Island Peak Base Camp.

Today we will acclimatize and have some pre-climb training.
Our experienced Sherpa guides will provide thorough training in peak climbing techniques and the correct utilization of climbing equipment such as ice axes, crampons, harnesses, and more. The instruction will also encompass rope skills for ascending and descending.
Additionally, we’ll have the chance to explore the picturesque Imja Lake, enjoying panoramic mountain views.

Setting out in the early hours of the morning, our aim is to reach the Island Peak summit before noon, strategically avoiding the gusty afternoon winds. Our journey will be guided by our experienced Sherpa guides. We commence by ascending to a rocky ridge, advancing further until we approach the base of a glacier. With the aid of ropes, our ascent continues up the glacier, leading us to the southern ridge, which we then follow to ultimately reach the summit.

Standing atop Island Peak, an awe-inspiring panorama unfolds. Your gaze will encompass remarkable vistas of Lhotse, Makalu, Island Peak, and Baruntse. As you immerse yourself in the beauty of the adventure and the surrounding views, ample time will be spent at the summit. Following this memorable experience, our descent will take us back to the base camp before proceeding further to descend to Chhukung.

Following a nourishing breakfast at the hotel, our journey continues as we retrace our steps, descending along the same route towards Pangboche. Our path takes us through charming Sherpa villages, amidst verdant rhododendron and Juniper forests. Pangboche emerges as a picturesque village embraced by mountains such as Everest, Ama Dablam, Kangtaiga, Thamserku, Kongde range.

We make our way back to Namche Bazaar, retracing our path through enchanting forests, quaint villages, and the revered Tengboche monastery. The route is adorned with fluttering prayer flags, accompanied by splendid mountain vistas. Upon reaching Namche Bazaar, you’ll have leisure time at your disposal. This presents an opportunity to delve into Tibetan shops, seeking out meaningful souvenirs, or to leisurely stroll through the lively Sherpa hub. You might choose to unwind with a soothing cup of coffee while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere.

Departing from Namche Bazaar, we descend through the forest, our path leading us toward the DudhKosi River. We retrace our route, crossing the river multiple times as we move along. Eventually, we exit the boundaries of the Sagarmatha National Park and reach Monjo. Continuing on, we follow the familiar trail along the eastern bank of the DudhKosi River, retracing our steps towards Lukla.

This phase of our journey serves as a moment to unwind and reflect. It offers a chance to contemplate the remarkable journey we’ve undertaken since our arrival in Lukla, while also acknowledging the gracious hospitality of the Sherpa community. It’s a time to relax, allowing the memories of the extraordinary days we’ve experienced to settle in.

In the morning, we’ll take a flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. We will drop you off at your respective hotels when we get in Kathmandu so you can unwind after our thrilling hiking excursion.
