Day by Day Itinerary

You’ll be warmly welcomed at the airport a traditional Buddhist greeting. After settling into your hotel near the peaceful Boudhanath Stupa, we’ll visit Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) for sunset views. In the evening, enjoy a relaxed welcome dinner and a short introduction to Buddhism and sacred art in Nepal.

Wake up early to join local pilgrims walking clockwise around the giant Boudhanath Stupa. Then we visit Shechen Monastery, where monks live and study, and also where traditional Buddhist art is taught. You’ll meet your Thangka painting teacher, visit the art school, and learn how Buddhist images are used for meditation and spiritual growth.

Today is your first full day of painting. You’ll learn to sketch the face of the Buddha using ancient techniques passed down for centuries. This is not just an art class—it’s also a calming, mindful experience. The setting is quiet and focused, with breaks for tea and storytelling from your teacher about the symbols and meanings in Buddhist art.

On your second day in the studio, you’ll work with natural pigments and start adding color and detail to your painting. You’ll be guided every step of the way. At the end of the day, you’ll receive a certificate and take your finished Thangka painting with you as a spiritual souvenir.

After breakfast, we take a scenic drive to Namobuddha, a peaceful hilltop monastery surrounded by forest. Here you’ll enjoy a guided meditation, sketch the beautiful surroundings, and learn the story of the Buddha’s past life at this sacred site. You’ll spend the night at a serene monastery guesthouse or eco-lodge nearby.

We travel to Patan, one of the oldest Buddhist cities in the world. You’ll explore ancient temples, including the famous Golden Temple, and visit local artists who still use traditional methods to craft statues and ritual art. You can also try your hand at repoussé (metal embossing) or wood carving. It’s a chance to see how Buddhism lives through art even today.

This is a special day. We’ll visit a local gallery to see modern Buddhist artworks, and then you’ll display your own Thangka in a small farewell showcase. In the evening, we gather for a quiet moment of reflection with butter lamps, chanting, and blessings. A farewell dinner in a traditional Newari home closes the journey beautifully.

After a relaxed morning, we’ll take you to the airport. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of Buddhist art, a handmade Thangka, and peaceful memories that stay with you.
