Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. After check in formalities and some refreshment, we will have a pre-departure meeting regarding the details of your trip.
During the evening, we will embark on a 15 to 20-minute stroll from your hotel to reach Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage site. Located in the heart of the historical area of Basantapur in old Kathmandu city, Kathmandu Durbar Square never fails to leave a strong impression on newcomers. It boasts an array of palaces, courtyards, and temples that were constructed during the Malla dynasty. Among the notable structures within the Durbar Square are the Hanuman Dhoka Royal Palace, a historically significant royal residence; the awe-inspiring Taleju Temple, standing over 40 meters tall; Kumari Ghar, where the Living Goddess Kumari resides; Ashok Vinayak, also known as Kathmandu Ganesh, a unique temple; and Kal Bhairav, the deity of fury. The city’s name is derived from the massive Kasthamandap pagoda, which is said to have been crafted from a single tree. Throughout the era of the Malla kings, the Durbar Square has remained the hub of the city’s social, religious, and political activities.
Afterward, we will return to our hotel by way of Asan, a marketplace that has been central to the city’s commerce since ancient times. Asan offers an astonishing array of goods for sale, including food items, spices, fabrics, electronics, and precious metals. Notably, Asan is also a popular attraction for tourists due to its captivating architecture and delightful atmosphere.
Situated 7 kilometers to the east of Kathmandu city, is the Bouddhanath Stupa, a remarkable architectural wonder and the largest stupa in Nepal. This location holds great importance as a significant hub of Tibetan Buddhism. According to local legend, it is believed that beneath this colossal stupa lies the remains of Kasyapa Buddha, a previous incarnation of Lord Buddha.
Our journey then leads us to the revered Pashupatinath Temple, a vital Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. This pagoda-style temple has its origins dating back to 400 AD and stands alongside the sacred Bagmati River. Pashupatinath Temple plays a pivotal role as the primary cremation site for Hindus in the Kathmandu Valley, with cremation ghats lining the banks of the flowing Bagmati River just below the temple.
Next, we explore Swayambhunath, perched atop a hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. According to local lore, Kathmandu was once a lake, and during meditation, Bodhisattva Manjushri discovered a lotus in this very lake. Having traveled from Tibet, he drained the lake, giving rise to the Swayambhunath Stupa, often known as the “self-created” stupa, emerging from the blossoming divine lotus. This sacred site holds reverence in both the Hindu and Buddhist faiths, as evidenced by the prayers of adherents from both traditions. To reach the shrine, one must ascend a series of stairs, and the presence of a substantial population of monkeys on the hillside has earned it the nickname ‘Monkey Temple.’
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our journey to the beautiful city of Pokhara. Our route will take us westward along the scenic Prithvi Highway, following the Trisuli and Marshyangdi Rivers, and passing through picturesque villages that enhance the natural beauty of the landscape. Along the way, the distant horizon will be graced by the majestic Mt. Manaslu and the Annapurna Mountain ranges.
Upon our arrival in Pokhara, the second-largest city in Nepal, you will be greeted by its peaceful atmosphere and vibrant energy. After reaching your hotel and settling in, you’ll have the opportunity to freshen up. We will then go on a boat ride on Fewa Lake to visit the Tal Barahi Temple.
