About Amadablam Expedition

AmaDablam Expedition, famously referred to as the “Matterhorn of the Himalaya,” is considered one of the most beautiful mountains due to its elegant shape. Situated in Nepal’s Khumbu region, south of Mount Everest, the name Aba Dablam means “Mother’s Necklace.” Anyone who has undertaken the journey to Everest base camp is familiar with the peak. Because it predominates the Eastern skyline for several days of the journey.

The favored route for ascending AmaDablam Expedition is the southwest ridge, often approached in stages with three established camps along the ridge. The path from the Base Camp to Camp 1 is relatively straightforward and less challenging. However, the complexity and difficulty gradually escalate from Camp 1 to Camp 2, and further to Camp 3.  Climbers must navigate the ridges’ narrow edges that are covered in Ice, Rocks, and Snow. Camp 3 is strategically positioned just below and to the right of the hanging glacier known as the Dablam. To reach the summit, one must navigate around and conquer the Dablam glacier. It is undeniable that attaining camps II and III and eventually reaching the summit demands a formidable effort. Yet, the trek to the base camp provides a delightful experience. The journey is enriched by breathtaking landscapes, towering peaks, graceful ridges, and vibrant Sherpa villages.

For anyone considering the AmaDablam challenge, it’s essential to possess rock and ice climbing skills and acclimatization to high altitudes. If you have prior climbing experience and aspire to join a team for an expedition to one of the world’s most exceptional peaks, the Ama Dablam Expedition awaits you.

Amadablam Expedition commences in Kathmandu, followed by a flight to Lukla (2840m). Then a trek through various villages: Phakding (2610m), Namche Bazaar (3440m), where acclimatization occurs before ascending further. The trail leads to Tyangboche (3860m), and then the journey towards the Ama Dablam Base Camp (4600m) begins. Time is allocated here for preparation, practice, and progressing to higher camps. This process improves stamina and minimizes the risk of altitude sickness. The climbing phase, spanning 15 days to reach Ama Dablam’s summit (6812m), considers the possibility of delaying the ascent due to less than ideal conditions. The remaining days are dedicated to refining climbing skills for a secure and triumphant ascent.

In conclusion, from the summit of Ama Dablam, an unobstructed panoramic view unfolds, showcasing the surroundings and prominent peaks. Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8414m), Makalu (8463m), Island peak, and other snowcapped mountains all masterfully displayed by the hand of Mother Nature herself.

Day by Day Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Later in the evening, we will have a pre-departure meeting regarding the details of your trip.

We will pick you up from your accommodation in the morning and take you to the airport for our picturesque flight to Lukla (2,800m). Starting in Lukla, we climb through the charming Chaurikharka village before descending to Dudhkoshi Ghat, which is 2,530 meters above sea level, before arriving at Phakding. Our pleasant and brief journey today will help us adjust to the higher altitude. When we have free time, we can visit surrounding monasteries like the Rimishung Monastery to learn more about the customs and culture of the area. This time will also serve as a warm-up for the lengthier walk we have coming up the next day.

We will continue our hike down the DudhKoshi River’s picturesque northern bank in the morning while taking in the breathtaking landscapes that are opening out in front of us. Our route will take us over multiple suspension bridges, including the well-known Hillary Suspension Bridge, that traverse the turbulent DudhKoshi River. Ascending through the deep trees, we will eventually reach the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint where our permits will be registered. Here, among the lush vegetation, is where we will get our first look at the magnificent Mt. Everest. As we continue on, our steps will lead us to Namche Bazaar, the vivacious entrance to Mount Everest, where we will arrive and succumb to its vitality.

Today will be our first day of acclimatization. We’ll have a variety of hiking opportunities to explore the surroundings while we’re at Namche Bazaar. To learn more about the rich culture of the Sherpa people, we can stroll around the village. We can also visit the Hillary School, a school that Sir Edmund Hillary personally founded. Hiking up to the Everest View Hotel, however, is a must-do for Everest aficionados. The magnificent Mt. Everest will be visible to you from this vantage point, rewarding you with breath-taking vistas that should not be missed.

Departing from Namche Bazaar, our trek continues as we cross the DudhKosi River, aptly named due to its milky appearance.. We are given mesmerizing views of Everest and Ama Dablam as we ascend the valley, surrounded by lovely rhododendron forests. When we get at PhunkiTenga, we cross the river and begin our trek through the lush forest toward Tengboche. The Tengboche monastery is vantage position to view the magnificent peaks such as Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Thamserku, and Tobuche. A 15-minute walk from Tengboche leads us to our lodge in the serene village of Deboche.

Following breakfast at the hotel, we embark on a hike towards Pangboche. Today’s trail offers a gentle mix of ascents and descents through a pine forest. Notably, Pangboche boasts the distinction of being home to the oldest monastery in the area.

We will deviate from the primary route leading to Everest Base Camp and transition to a more tranquil path. Initially, we will descend for approximately 30 minutes until we reach Imja Khola. From there, we will embark on a 2 and a half hour ascent to ultimately arrive at the Amadablam Base Camp. As a gratifying outcome, we will be treated to breathtaking panoramic vistas encompassing Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Pumori, and Island Peak.

Our destination for today is Namche Bazaar. Along the way, we traverse well-known villages such as Deboche and Tengboche. There will be an opportunity to explore Tyangboche’s renowned monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region, and its accompanying museum.

Departing from Namche Bazaar, we descend through the forest, our path leading us toward the DudhKosi River. We retrace our route, crossing the river multiple times as we move along. Eventually, we exit the boundaries of the Sagarmatha National Park and reach Monjo. Continuing on, we follow the familiar trail along the eastern bank of the DudhKosi River, retracing our steps towards Lukla.

After breakfast, we will catch a flight from Lukla to Kathmandu depending on the weather. After our thrilling trekking expedition, we will drop you off at your respective hotel in Kathmandu so you can settle down and unwind.
