Canada is a vast and diverse country located in the northern part of North America. It stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and extends northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering an immense area of 9.98 million square kilometers (3.85 million square miles). This makes Canada the second-largest country in the world in terms of total land area.
The southern border of Canada with the United States holds the distinction of being the world’s longest bi-national land border. Ottawa serves as the capital, while the three most populous urban centers are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
Despite its enormous size, much of Canada’s land is characterized by expansive forests and tundra, leading to a relatively sparse overall population density. The majority of Canadians, roughly over 80 percent, reside in large and medium-sized cities, primarily situated in proximity to the southern border.
Canada’s climate is incredibly diverse due to its vast geographical expanse. The northern regions experience arctic conditions, while the southern areas enjoy warmer summers, resulting in four distinct seasons that define the country’s climate.
