The Mohare Danda Trek is a recently discovered route for community lodge trekking in the Annapurna Region. This trek offers a tranquil experience off the typical tourist path in the foothills of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan Ranges. It’s a relatively short and easy trek, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking a peaceful Himalayan getaway with up-close mountain views without the need for an extended trekking expedition. This journey is also well-suited for beginners and families looking for an adventurous vacation.
Mohare Danda combined with a visit to Poon Hill, provides an excellent blend of stunning landscapes. A chance to immerse yourself in the rich culture and traditions of the Magar and Gurung ethnic groups. Along this trek, you’ll pass through lush forests of oak, pine, bamboo, and vibrant rhododendron blooms. You’ll also encounter charming villages, terraced fields, waterfalls, and meandering rivers. At Mohare Danda and Poon Hill, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset over majestic Himalayan peaks. Annapurna I (8091m), Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Machhapuchhre (6997m), Annapurna South (7219m), Nilgiri (6820m), Hiunchuli (6441m), and more.
The Mohare Danda & Poon Hill Trek commences with a picturesque drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Then proceeds to Galeshwor on the outskirts of Pokhara. The trail gradually ascends, passing through a forested terrain, villages like Banskharka and Nangi, remote farmland with a paper-making facility. A local cheese factory, and some steep sections before reaching the village of Mohare Danda. Subsequently, the trail joins the well-known Poon Hill Trek. As you continue, the trail descends to Nayapul, where the trek concludes, and you’ll be driven back to Pokhara.
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Later in the evening, we will have a pre-departure meeting regarding the details of your trip.
In the morning, we’ll pick you up from your hotel and head towards Pokhara. During the drive we can see rivers, mountains and picturesque villages that dot the landscapes. Upon reaching Pokhara, you can settle in and later explore the charming lakeside area with its scenic views, restaurants, shops, and cafes along Phewa Lake.
Following breakfast, we’ll embark on a drive to the outskirts of Pokhara along the Modi Khola and Kali Gandaki rivers to reach Galeshwor. Galeshwor is home to a revered Lord Shiva Temple, a must-visit site. From there, our trek commences, taking us uphill, crossing a suspension bridge over the Kaligandaki River, passing through numerous settlements, terraced fields, and lush forests, ultimately reaching our destination for the day, Banskharka.
As we leave Bans Kharka behind, our trail gradually ascends. The route to Nangi takes you through picturesque villages, agricultural fields, dense forests of Pine, Oak, and vibrant Rhododendron trees, all while offering breathtaking mountain views and stunning landscapes. Nangi village is the birthplace of Mahabir Poon, a pioneer in communication technology and the founder of this trekking route. In the village, we’ll visit the community-based Himanchal High School, a local paper factory, the Nangi Barahi Temple, a nursery for medicinal plants, and an advanced computer lab.
Today we will reach the highest point of our trek and it’s going to be a relatively long. Departing from Naangi, you’ll follow a trail that meanders through unspoiled oak, rhododendron, bamboo forests, and occasional yak pastures. The path will steadily ascend, making it a bit strenuous, but the reward is well worth it. Along the way, you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring views of several snow-capped mountains.
Upon reaching the summit of Mohare Danda, you’ll be greeted by close-up vistas of remarkable peaks such as Nilgiri, Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail Mountain), Annapurna South, and Dhaulagiri. The effort put into this ascent will undoubtedly be rewarded with these stunning mountain panoramas.
We begin our day early, savoring a steaming cup of Nepali tea, while we eagerly await the magnificent sunrise over the snow-covered peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges. Following breakfast, we resume our trek towards Ghorepani, embarking on a full day of trekking that takes us through a mix of uphill and downhill paths within the lush jungle.
Today promises to be another highlight of our trekking adventure. Our day begins before sunrise as we wake up early for an exhilarating hike to Poon Hill, situated at an elevation of 3210 meters. The climb to Poon Hill typically takes around 45 minutes, and the anticipation of witnessing the sunrise over the Himalayas fills us with excitement. Upon reaching the summit of Poon Hill, we are treated to a truly awe-inspiring spectacle as the first rays of sunlight bathe the sky in hues of orange and gold. The panoramic vista that unfolds before us is genuinely captivating. From this elevated vantage point, we can admire a majestic lineup of peaks, including Dhaulagiri (8,167m), the Annapurnas, Machhapuchhre (6,997m), Manaslu (8,163m), and many more.
After immersing ourselves in the beauty and tranquility of Poon Hill, we retrace our steps back to the hotel. After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we embark on our final day of trekking towards Ulleri. Upon reaching Ulleri, our vehicle will be ready to transport us back to Pokhara, concluding our trekking adventure.
